A Trip to Sydney, Australia

-- In June 2005, we took a break from work and went on a vacation to oldest
European settlement in Australia. Here are some of the highlights of the trip.--

Darling Harbour

On our first day in Sydney, we went to visit Darling Harbour which is within walking distance
from the hostel we stayed in. Darling Harbour looks a bit like Singapore's Boat Quay, only bigger.

Circular Quay

A trip to Sydney is not complete if one does not take the time to visit Circular Quay.
There stand the Harbour Bridge, the Sydney Opera House and The Rock,
the oldest part of Sydney. We spent most of our free time exploring Circular Quay.

1. Sydney Harbour Bridge

2. Sydney Opera House

3. Circular Quay Ferry Terminal and Railway Station

4. The Rock

5. Harbour Cruises (Day and Night)
We took both the day and night harbour cruises from Circular Quay.
However, the nightshots turned out quite bad. Due to the lack of lighting,
I had to compensate by using longer exposure. The result wasn't flattering
so we decide not to put the night pics here.

Blue Mountains

First stop, Kangaroo Valley... see kangaroos in the wild. Well actually, the kangaroos
are quite tame. We were even able to come close enough to touch some of them.

A rock formation called The Three Sisters.....

A coal mine and the world's steepest train ride...

Our tour guide drove us into the Australian bush nearby to show us these. Awesome!

More Blue Moutains sites...

Sydney Fish Market

A fish market? What's so great about this fish market? Firstly, it is the second biggest
fish market in the world. (The biggest is in Tokyo.) Secondly, you'll never get to taste
seafood this good and this fresh in Singapore. The food is so good that we visited
the fish market twice! Our tastebuds really went berserk... I really missed the food.

Anyone game enough for fresh raw oysters? Yummy! Slurrppp!

Jervis Bay, Dolphins and Whale Watching

We took a trip to Jervis Bay to see the wild dolphins.
Along the way, we stopped at Sublime Point to take in the view.

Finally we arrived at Jervis Bay. A boat took us around the bay.
Then, we saw them... a school of really playful dolphins that came very, very close to the boat.

The next day, we board a boat from Darling Harbour that took us out to sea to see
the humpback whales. Unlike the dolphins, humpback whales are very shy creatures.
We managed to catch a glimpse of 2 or 3 but the boat was unable to get close to
these magnificent and elusive beasts.
